WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Every member of the Wake Forest men's golf team will be in action this weekend when the team heads to the Irish Creek Collegiate at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, NC.
The first two rounds will be played on Saturday, April 9, with the final round set for Sunday, April 10.
This will be the first time the Demon Deacons will be playing in the event. After a tough start to the spring, Wake Forest played solid at the Hootie at Bulls Bay two weeks ago and finished tied for fifth in a very strong field.
Junior Lee Bedford shot 1-under 212 and finished 10th at the Hootie to lead the Deacs. He will be joined in the lineup this week by sophomores Evan Beck and Charlie Harrison as well as seniors Justin Bryant and Kris Keiser. Freshmen John Varol and Beau Cutts and junior Franklin Dolan will all be playing this weekend as individuals.
Beck is having a great sophomore season for Wake, averaging 72.1 strokes per round and has a team-best four top-5 finishes. Harrison has played in all nine team events and has 10 rounds at par or better while Bryant has played in eight events and is averaging 75.9 strokes per round. Keiser joined the team this season and will be playing in his first event as a Demon Deacon.
The Irish Creek Collegiate will be the final tune-up for Wake before it heads to the ACC Championship on April 22-24. The Deacs are joined in the field this week by fellow ACC-rivals Duke and North Carolina.
Play will begin with a shotgun start Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. The final round is scheduled to begin with tee times off both the first and tenth tees on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. There is a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday but the forecast for Sunday looks ideal with temperatures in the mid-80s.
There is no live scoring for this event but check back to WakeForestSports.com for a complete recap at the end of both days.
