Dillon, Dodds Highlight Final Day of Action at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - Seniors Marcus Dillon and Tyler Dodds each turned in top performances in their respective events Saturday afternoon, as Dillon placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Dodds claimed third in the 400-meter dash on the final day of the Duke Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Numerous Deacons set new personal records on the afternoon, including Paul Loeser and Jake Graham in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Nate Guthals in the 800-meter run.
Several freshmen competed in new events for the first time in their careers, as Hiter Harris and Sterling Wilkins made their debut in the 100-meter dash, and Malcolm Nunley raced in his first 400-meter dash of the outdoor season.
The Deacs will return to the track next Saturday when they travel to High Point for the Vertklasse Meeting.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of complete action from Day Two of the Duke Invitational.
100-meter Dash
Freshmen Sterling Wilkins and Hiter Harris made their collegiate debut in the 100-meters Saturday afternoon, as Wilkins finished 44th in 11.69 and Harris was right behind in 11.70 to claim 45th place.
200-meter Dash
Sterling Wilkins was the lone competitor for the Deacs in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 23.95 to place 43rd overall.
400-meter Dash
Senior Tyler Dodds led a trio of Deacons in the 400-meter dash as he has done all season, finishing third with a time of 48.05. Fellow senior Allan Lunkenheimer turned in his second-best time of the season, 48.92, en route to a 12th place finish.
Freshman Malcolm Nunley competed in the event for the first time during the outdoor season, as he turned in a time of 52.46 to place 34th overall.
800-meter Run
Nate Guthals set a new personal-best in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in in 1:52.90 to take 12th place.
800-meter Run: Developmental
Freshman Kyle Eager turned in the top 800-meter time of his young career, crossing the line in 1:57.64 to finish seventh in the developmental section of the 800-meter run.
3,000-meter Steeplechase
Three Deacons competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and each set a new personal record along the way. Marcus Dillon led the Wake Forest runners with a third place finish in a time of 9:02.12, two seconds faster than his previous-best mark.
Junior Paul Loeser improved upon his time from last weekend's Tiger Track Classic by more than ten seconds with a time of 9:15.02, good for ninth place. This marks the second consecutive meet in which Loeser has placed in the top ten of the steeplechase event.
Jake Graham rounded out action in the steeplechase for the Deacons, finishing in 13th place with a personal-best time of 9:25.74.
Discus Throw
Junior Michael Wooten turned in his second-best toss of the season in the discus throw with a mark of 158-6 (48.32 meters) to place sixth overall.
Pole Vault
Trey Blanton tied for 13th place in the pole vault by clearing a height of 14-9 (4.50 meters).
