COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Wake Forest senior Natalie Sheary, junior Cheyenne Woods and sophomore Michelle Shin earned National Golf Coaches Association All-America honors as announced by the NGCA on Saturday evening. All three players were named to the honorable mention team.
For Sheary, this is her third All-America honors while Woods and Shin take home the award for the second time. This is the first time in school-history that three Demon Deacons have earned All-America honors in the same season.
Sheary earned NGCA honorable mention All-America honors as both a freshman and a sophomore. She led the team in scoring as a freshman and also led the team this year as a senior. She finished with a career scoring average of 74.43 which is the lowest scoring average in school-history.
Sheary capped her career with a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships this past week. The West Hartford, Conn., native finished tied for eighth at 1-over par. It was her best career finish in three NCAA Championship appearances. Sheary also led the team with a total of 16 rounds at par or better and eight top-20 finishes.
Woods was named a second team NGCA All-American last year and also took home Golfweek third team honors. She won the ACC Individual title in dominating fashion earlier this spring and became just the third Demon Deacon to card three under-par rounds at the same event. She accomplished that feat on two occasions, first at the Lady Tar Heel in the fall and then at the ACC Championship in April. Woods finished the year with three top-10s and seven top-20s and had a 73.8 scoring average. She finished outside of the top-20 just once in seven events this spring and was second on the squad with a total of 12 rounds at par or better.
This is Shin's first NGCA honors as she claimed Golfweek honorable mention honors last year as a freshman. The Cape Coral, Fla., native had a tremendous start to the year, setting a number of school records. She opened the Mason Rudolph Challenge with a school-record 7-under 65 and would finish the 54-hole event at a school-record 10-under par. That broke the old mark by four shots. Shin then ran her streak of consecutive under-par rounds to five, which also set a new school record.
Shin finished the year with a 73.9 scoring average and had 10 rounds at par or better. She also had a total of six top-20 finishes, including a pair of runner-up finishes.
Sheary, Woods and Shin are three of 13 Wake Forest All-Americans. Sheary becomes just the second Demon Deacon to be a three-time All-American, joining Stephanie Neill, who is the school's only four-time All-American.
