SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Wake Forest women's golf team entered the final round of the NCAA Central Regional six shots out of the eighth qualifying spot. After a decent front nine, Wake turned up the heat on the back nine and overtook three teams for the eighth and final spot, advancing to the NCAA Championships.

On a day filled with highlights, perhaps one of the biggest came from senior Allie Bodemann. The Palm City, Fla., native made three birdies on the final nine holes to post a final round 76. It was her best round since the final round of the Bryan National on March 27.

Bodemann opened the tournament with rounds of 82-83 and went out on the front nine at 4-over par. But she played a gritty back nine at even-par to post the Deacons' first score of the day.

Junior Cheyenne Woods started her final round with a bogey at the opening hole but she bounced-back with birdies at Nos. 2 and 3. She then parred the next nine holes before making a long birdie putt on the par-4 13th to get to 2-under for the day. The Phoenix, Ariz., native closed the round with five-straight pars to post just one of three under-par rounds on the day. Her 2-under 70 bumped her into fifth place at 5-over par.

Senior Natalie Sheary also had a very clutch round for the Deacons on Saturday. She found herself at a mediocre 4-over par through 15 holes but made a solid 10-foot putt for birdie on No. 16 and another 5-footer for birdie on No. 17 to get to 2-over for the day. A solid par on No. 18 left her with a round of a 2-over 74. Sheary finished the event tied for 18th at 9-over par.

Sophomore Michelle Shin got off to a great start and made the turn at 1-under par. She then made bogeys at Nos. 12 and 14 but finished with four solid pars to post a 1-over 73. It was her lowest round of the weekend and vaulted her into a tie for 22nd at 10-over par.

Freshman Olafia Kristinsdottir posted her second-straight round of 9-over 81 on Saturday to finish tied for 101st.

The Deacons shot rounds of 312 and 304 in the first two rounds and put themselves in a bit of a hole. Needing a solid round, Wake posted the second-lowest round of the day to comeback and overtake ACC-rival Duke down the stretch.

Wake Forest finished the event at 45-over par, four shot clear of Duke who finished in ninth place. UCLA won the event at 26-over par, which was four shots ahead of LSU.

Individually, LSU's Megan McChrystal and UCLA's Stephanie Kono finished tied for medalist honors at 2-over par. Kono's 4-under 68 on Saturday was the lowest round of the tournament.

The Demon Deacons will now head to the NCAA Championships which is being played at the Traditions Club in College Station, Texas. Wake qualifies for its 10th NCAA Championship in the last 14 years. The 72-hole event with begin on Wednesday, May 18 and run through Saturday, May 21.
