DES MOINES, IOWA - Ben Lincoln's fantastic season in the javelin throw came to its conclusion on Wednesday as the sophomore competed in the NCAA Championships on the campus of Drake University.
His best toss of 217-3 (66.22m) came on his first throw of the day. While it did not match his performance in the NCAA Regionals, the mark represented a solid performance for the young javelin competitor who was making his first NCAA appearance. His second attempt was a foul, while his final throw of 215-6 (65.68m) could not match his first.
Lincoln, hailing from Hingham, Mass., claimed the school record in his signature event with a throw of 230-11 (70.38m) at the Tiger Track Classic on April 1. In each of his seven competitions leading up to the NCAA Regionals, he never placed lower than fourth overall and claimed victory twice: at the Vertklasse Meeting on April 17 and the Carolina Relays on May 14.
For the second year in a row, the sophomore earned All-ACC honors following a superb performance at the ACC Outdoor Championships. He enjoyed his second-best toss of the season with a mark of 226-4 (69.00m) to earn a third-place finish.
Lincoln booked his spot in the NCAA Championships by finishing eighth overall in the East Regional held in Bloomington, Ind., on May 26. He was among 24 competitors nationwide to advance following his mark of 225-9 (68.81m), which earned him the 19th overall seed for the competition.
