WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head field hockey coach Jennifer Averill has announced the team's schedule for 2011, featuring half the regular season games against 2010 NCAA Tournament participants.
Of the Demon Deacons' 16 scheduled regular season games, eight will be against teams that made the field of 16 a year ago. Teams on that list include ACC rivals North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, as well as non-conference foes Michigan, Syracuse, Ohio State and Princeton.
Wake Forest's season opener will be on August 27th when the Deacs travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Wake will play Iowa on August 27th at 2 p.m. and Michigan on August 28 at 2 p.m.
The first home game for the Demon Deacons is set for September 4th against Louisville at 4:00 pm.
Wake Forest will have a significant stretch of September without playing a game on campus at Kentner Stadium. The Deacs will play five road games between September 10 and September 25, including contests against Duke (9/10), Ohio State (9/16), North Carolina (9/18), Maryland (9/24) and Delaware (9/25).
The Demon Deacons will then enjoy five of their last seven games at home. Last season, the team finished with a 7-5 record at Kentner Stadium.
Looking to improve on last year's 1-4 record in conference play, the Deacs will again play all six ACC schools in conference and will play one additional non-conference game against North Carolina.
Wake Forest will also be looking to avenge a loss to Princeton on October 9 after the Tigers defeated Demon Deacons 3-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
The ACC Tournament will take place in College Park, Md. on November 3-4 and 6, while the NCAA Opening Rounds will take place on campus sites on November 11-12. The NCAA Championship will be on November 18 and 20 at Louisville, Ky.
