WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head men's tennis coach Jeff Zinn has been named the head men's tennis coach at Penn State. Zinn had recently completed his 15th season as head coach of the Demon Deacons.
"Jeff had phenomenal success here at Wake Forest, taking our program to the NCAA Tournament in each of the past 11 seasons." said Senior Associate Athletic Director Barbara Walker. "He brought in some tremendous student-athletes to Wake Forest who have graduated and gone on to great success. We wish him the best of luck in the future."
"I want to express my sincere thanks to Ron Wellman and Barbara Walker for the opportunities that they have given me over the past 15 years," said Zinn. "Working with the fantastic student-athletes that I've coached here at Wake Forest has been a great experience. Leaving Wake was not an easy decision, but I am excited to start a new chapter of my life at Penn State."
Zinn leaves Wake Forest as the second-winningest coach in program history with a 231-157 record. In ACC play, Zinn's squads went 78-62, reaching the final of the ACC Tournament for the first time in school history in 2008.
Zinn led the Demon Deacons to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including program-best Round of 16 appearances in 2007 and 2009.
Under Zinn, Wake Forest players earned All-America honors 11 times and All-ACC honors on 23 occasions. He coached Cory Parr and Steven Forman to a No. 1 national ranking and the 2008 ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship - the first individual national championship in program history. He also coached Todd Paul to the No. 1 national singles ranking.
Zinn came to Wake Forest in 1997 after serving as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Wake Forest men's and women's tennis teams will this season begin play at a brand-new 13-court facility that was constructed to be the home of the ATP's Winston-Salem Open at Wake Forest University. The inaugural Winston-Salem Open is currently in progress, with the championship match set for Aug. 27.
A national search for Zinn's replacement will begin immediately.
