Wake Forest Announces 2011-12 Basketball Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's 30-game regular season schedule was released by the Atlantic Coast Conference office on Wednesday afternoon. The Demon Deacons are set to open the season on Friday, Nov. 11, against Loyola (Md.) at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem.

In all, Wake Forest will play 16 games at the Joel Coliseum, including three over the first 10 days of the season as well as five straight from mid-December through the start of conference play in early January.

In its second season under head coach Jeff Bzdelik, Wake Forest will face up to 13 teams that participated in postseason play in 2010-11, including seven that made the NCAA Tournament.

Television coverage for Wake Forest's ACC games was announced as well. All 16 of the Deacons' regular season ACC games will be televised, including three contests nationally on the ESPN family of networks. All 16 league games will be streamed live online at ESPN3.com in addition to their regular TV coverage.

Wake Forest will also appear on ESPN when the Deacons play in the 2011 Old Spice Classic during Thanksgiving week in Orlando. Wake's game against Dayton on Thanksgiving will be on ESPN2, and the Deacons' second-round game against either Arizona State or Fairfield will be on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Television coverage for any remaining non-conference games will be announced at a later date. Tip times for non-conference games may change depending on TV designation.

In addition to the Old Spice Classic, Wake Forest will play four non-conference games during the season's opening month. After beginning the year against Loyola, the Deacons will then host Georgia Southern on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and N.C. Central on Sunday, Nov. 20. Wake returns from spending Thanksgiving in Orlando to turn around and travel to Nebraska to take on the Big Ten's newest member in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Wake Forest will play six games during the month of December, including four at home beginning with longtime rival Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Deacons will then make the short trek to High Point to play at the Panthers on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Wake Forest will then travel to Newark, N.J., to take on Seton Hall of the Big East on Saturday, Dec. 10.

After a week-long break for fall semester final exams, the Deacons return to action by hosting Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Dec. 18. Wake will then host in-state rival UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, Dec. 21.

The Deacons will wrap up the year by hosting Ivy League foe Yale on Thursday, Dec. 29.

Wake Forest is set to ring in the New Year by hosting Wofford on Monday, Jan. 2, marking the Deacons' final non-conference game of the season.

Wake Forest begins conference play by hosting Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 7.

In conference play, the Deacons will play home-and-home series with Boston College, Duke, Clemson, Georgia Tech and NC State. Wake Forest will host Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech and play at Maryland, Miami and Virginia.

The Deacons will play eight conference games in January: vs. Virginia Tech (Jan. 7), at Maryland (Jan. 11), vs. NC State (Jan. 14), at Duke (Jan. 19) in a nationally-televised matchup on ESPN or ESPN2, at Boston College (Jan. 21), vs. Florida State Jan. 25), at Clemson (Jan. 28) and vs. North Carolina (Jan. 31) in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.

Wake Forest will play seven February games: at NC State (Feb. 4), at Virginia (Feb. 8), vs. Clemson (Feb. 11), vs. Georgia Tech (Feb. 15), at Miami (Feb. 18), vs. Boston College (Feb. 25) and vs. Duke (Feb. 28) in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.

The Deacons will wrap up regular season play on Saturday, March 3, at Georgia Tech.

The 2012 ACC Tournament will be held at Philips Arena in Atlanta. The postseason conference event is slated for March 8-11.

Wake Forest will play one exhibition game prior to the start of the 2011-12 season. The Deacons will host NCAA Division III foe Ferrum College on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Joel Coliseum.
