COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Wake Forest basketball team hosted two soldiers from the Wounded Warriors program during its road trip to Maryland this week. Army soliders Jesse Murphree and Eric Riley spent Wednesday with the team and will attend the game as the team's guests tonight.
The visit was set up by Wake Forest Director of Basketball Operations Jeff Nix and Rick Kell, who is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the Troops First Foundation.
Murphree was a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. He lost his legs from the knee down after his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2007. For more info on Murphree, read this 2008 article on the U.S. Army website.
Riley is a former U.S. Army Ranger sniper who lost his left eye during combat.
Wake Forest also hosted soldiers from the Wounded Warrior program during a trip to Maryland during the 2008-09 season. David Feherty, professional golf broadcaster and Co-Founder of the Troops First Foundation, accompanied the soldiers during that visit.
