BLACKSBURG, VA. - Senior distance runner Paul Loeser raced to a strong finish in the one mile run Friday evening at the Hokie Invitational, finishing third overall in a personal-best time of 4:13.89. Tom Finneran also set a new personal-best in the event with a mark of 4:15.30.
Malcolm Nunley and Alex Hill led the way for the Deacs in the shorter sprint events, while Sean Lunkenheimer and Michael McEnany paced the squad in the 600-meters.
The Hokie Invitational will resume tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump. The first event on the track, the women's 5,000 meter run, is set to begin at noon.

Following is an event-by-event breakdown of Day One action from the Hokie Invitational.
60-meter Hurdles
Sophomore Malcolm Nunley finished 13th overall in 8.30, while senior Alex Hill was close behind in 8.71 to claim 21st place in the prelims.
60 meters
Multi-event specialist Alex Hill finished in 7.34 in the 60-meters to place 21st overall.
300 meters
Malcolm Nunley cracked the top-ten in the 300-meters, finishing ninth overall in a time of 35.48.
600 meters
A duo of Deacs competed in the 600-meters, with junior Sean Lunkenheimer leading the way in 1:21.89 (12th place). Michael McEnany claimed 16th place with a time of 1:22.70.
One Mile Run
Senior Paul Loeser shaved more than 15 seconds off his personal-best mile time, finishing third in the event with a new career-best time of 4:13.89. Junior Tom Finneran also raced well on the evening, finishing in 4:15.30 to place sixth.
Freshman Jake Dearmon competed in the event for the first time of his career, crossing the finish line in 4:34.34 to place 29th overall.
3,000 meters
Junior cross country phenom Garret Drogosch finished eighth overall in a personal-best time of 8:29.92. Freshman Connor Crowley finished 29th overall in a time of 9:12.03.
4x800-meter Relay
The relay squad of Kyle Eager, Nate Guthals, Anthony Marois, and Tom Morrison claimed a fourth-place finish in a time of 7:42.71.
