WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest hosted Boston College on Friday in the first home ACC match of the year, but the Deacs fell 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 27-29, 22-25).
Andrea Beck had a season-high 21 kills in the match and no errors, posting a hitting percentage of .568. She also assisted on a team-high six blocks with one solo block. Kristin Grissom also had a great match with 17 kills off 30 attempts with two errors, which was good for a hitting percentage of .500.
The first set featured 13 tie scores and seven lead changes. BC jumped out early, leading 8-5, but the Deacs fought back, eventually taking a 11-9 advantage. After going back and forth, the Eagles narrowly edged out the Demon Deacons, taking the set 25-23.
In the second set, Wake Forest led the entire time as Beck led the way with five kills, followed by Grissom's four. The Deacs out-blocked Boston College 5.0 en route to winning the set 25-17. Wake Forest led as much as seven as the team held a 19-12 advantage. With a score of 23-17, Beck tallied a block and a kill, before Ashlee Rusk and Beck had a huge block to end the set.
The third set was a thriller as Boston College won 29-27 in a set that had 30 tie scores and 13 lead changes. Grissom, Beck and Kylie Hargreaves combined for 17 kills and only two errors but the Eagles had two kills to end the exciting third set.
Although Beck had eight kills in the fourth set, Boston College won another close one 25-22. The score was close throughout with Beck taking a set from Jazmen Russell which narrowed the Eagles lead to 23-22. But BC finished the set 25-22, taking the match.
Katty Workman had 18 kills for the Eagles (9-9/3-3 ACC) while Courtney Castle had 13.
Danae Rosendall had 45 assists while Megan Miller had 16 digs. Hargreaves finished with 14 digs and nine kills.
Wake Forest (6-11/0-5 ACC) returns to action on Saturday with an ACC match against Maryland at 5 p.m. in Reynolds Gym.
