
Woods Leads Deacons On Day 1 Of Northrop Grumman

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Wake Forest senior All-American Cheyenne Woods carded a 1-over 72 on Monday to lead the Wake Forest women's golf team in the opening round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.
As a team, the Demon Deacons carded a 26-over 310 and are currently tied for 13th in the 15-team field.
Woods offset three bogeys in her round with a pair of birdies to open with a 72 and is tied for 11th. Last year, Woods finished tied for third in this event at 7-over par.
Sophomore Olafia Kristinsdottir navigated her way through cool and damp conditions to post an opening 3-over 74. She was 4-over par through 11 holes but played the final seven holes at 1-under par. Kristinsdottir will start the second round in a tie for 22nd.
Junior Greta Lange opened with a 10-over 81 while freshmen Allison Emrey and Emily Wright each posted rounds of 12-over 83.
UCLA, the No. 1 in the country, lived up to its lofty ranking with an even-par round of 284 and leads by eight shots over Duke. Individually, Rachel Watton of Denver made four birdies on her closing nine to card a 4-under 67 and holds the opening round lead. She is two shots better than Lindy Duncan of Duke, who posted a 2-under 69.
The Deacons will be in the final wave off the tenth tee Tuesday morning and will be paired with Oklahoma and UC Davis. The first tee time is set for 10 a.m. PST. Golfstat.com will provide live scoring of the final two rounds.
