Men's Golf Tied For Second After First Day Of Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. - The Wake Forest men's golf team opened the spring portion of the schedule with a solid day, shooting 1-under par through the first two rounds of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Wake Forest is tied for second place with South Alabama. The two teams trail Middle Tennessee State but five shots.
Individually, senior Lee Bedford fired a pair of under-par rounds and is in third place at 3-under par. Junior Charlie Harrison is just 1-over par and tied for 14th while sophomore Thomas Birdsey is 2-over and tied for 19th.
Bedford made a total of seven birdies on the day while posting rounds of 71-70. Harrison made two birdies and two bogeys in his opening round 72 and then offset a double-bogey with a pair of birdies in the afternoon round of 73.
Birdsey had four bogeys and a double-bogey in an opening round 76 but rebounded nicely with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon and is 2-over through 36-holes.
Junior Evan Beck shot rounds f 73-74 and is tied for 24th at 3-over par while sophomore John Varol followed an opening round 72 with a tough 79 in the afternoon. He is tied for 52nd with a round to go.
MTSU has three players under par and in the top-6 on the leaderboard, which helped thrust the Tigers into the overnight lead. In the individual race, MTSU's Andrew Cho made eight birdies and just three bogeys over the 36 holes and has a 1-shot lead at 5-under par.
The Deacons will be in the final pairing off the first tee Tuesday morning with MTSU and South Alabama. The first tee time will begin at 9:36 CST. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
