Bedford Finishes With Two Under-Par Rounds To Pace Deacons At Morris Williams Intercollegiate

AUSTIN, Texas - Wake Forest All-American Lee Bedford shook off a tough opening round at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate and finished with a pair of under-par rounds to tie for 10th at 1-over par. As a team, the Demon Deacons finished in seventh place after a final round 295.
Bedford went out on the back nine in 1-under 35 on Saturday and countered a double-bogey on No. 3 with a pair of birdies to finish with a 1-under 70. He opened with a 77 on Friday morning but finished with rounds of 67-70 to post 1-over par and tie for 10th. Seven of Bedford's nine rounds this spring have been under-par and he has finished in the top-10 in all three events.
Sophomore Thomas Birdsey put together three solid rounds this weekend and finished tied for 20th. He carded rounds of 74-72-73 to post 6-over par.
After opening with a 73, junior Evan Beck had a tough finish and posted rounds of 77-78 to finish tied for 48th at 15-over par. Fellow junior Charlie Harrison posted an 82 on Sunday and would finish in a tie for 59th.
Freshmen Cyrus Stewart and Brandon Ng rounded out the Deacons lineup this week. Stewart bounced-back from a tough second round to post a 3-over 74 on Saturday and finish 61st. Ng posted an 87 Saturday and tied for 69th.
Host Texas came into the final round with a six shot lead and would walk away with the title after a final round 2-under 282. The top-ranked Longhorns finished 16 shots ahead New Mexico, which carded a 292 on Saturday.
In the individual race, three Texas teammates - Dylan Frittelli, Jordan Spieth and Julio Vegas - all finished at 5-under par to share medalist honors. A fourth Longhorn, Alex Moon who was playing as an individual, finished a shot behind the trio at 4-under par.
The Demon Deacons will have a little over a week to prepare for The Hootie At Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event, which is played at the Bulls Bay Country Club, starts on March 25 and runs through March 27.
