Lincoln Claims Victory in Javelin at HPU VertKlasse

HIGH POINT, N.C.-Junior Ben Lincoln finished first overall in the javelin throw with a mark of 226-8 (69.08 meters) to lead the Wake Forest men's track and field team on Saturday afternoon at the HPU VertKlasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University.
The Deacs compiled a number of strong performances in the field events, as freshman K.C. Barrett finished third overall in the hammer throw, and Nate Wooten followed close behind in fifth place in the event.
Wooten also notched a third-place finish in the discus throw and a fifth-place finish in the shot put at the meet.
Wake Forest returns to the track next Friday as they compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State, and the WSSU Invitational, hosted by Winston-Salem State University.
Following is an event-by-event breakdown of action from the VertKlasse Meeting.
Javelin Throw
School record-holder Ben Lincoln finished first in his signature event, throwing for a distance of 226-8 (69.08 meters). Patrick Donelan claimed third place with a mark of 179-2 (54.62 meters), while Alex Hill finished fifth with a throw of 164-0 (50 meters).
Senior Trey Blanton finished directly behind Hill in sixth place, also turning in a throw of 164-0 (49.98 meters).
Pole Vault
In the participation division, Alex Hill finished third overall with a mark of 11-4.50 (3.47 meters).
Hammer Throw
Freshman K.C. Barrett claimed a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 154-6 (47.10 meters), and sophomore Nate Wooten threw for a distance of 150-9 (45.96 meters) to finish fifth overall.
Shot Put
Nate Wooten finished fifth overall with a throw of 42-4 (12.90 meters) in the shot put.
Discus Throw
Michael and Nate Wooten finished second and third, respectively, as Michael threw for a distance of 150-11 (46.01 meters) and Nate turned in a toss of 139-8 (42.57 meters).
Long Jump
Michael Mastanduno was the lone Deacon in the long jump, finishing 10th overall with a jump of 20-10 (6.35 meters).
110m Hurdles
Sophomore Malcolm Nunley finished seventh overall in 15.04, while senior multi-event athlete Alex Hill finished 12th in 16.77.
400m
Freshman Daniel Harrison led the way for the Deacs in the 400m, finishing sixth overall in 48.30.
In the participation division, fellow freshman John Bedingham claimed 16th place in a time of 53.31.
800m
Sophomore Kyle Eager finished fifth in 1:54.70, and Michael McEnany was directly behind in sixth place with a time of 1:54.71.
1500m
Five Deacons competed in the 1500m, led by Anthony Marois in fourth place (3:50.64) and Tom Finneran in fifth place (3:51.04). Senior Paul Loeser claimed seventh place in 3:52.84, and Nate Guthals was close behind in eighth place in 3:53.02.
Rounding out the action was Alexander Rose in ninth place with a time of 3:53.63.
3,000m Steeplechase
Freshman Jake Dearmon finished seventh overall in the steeplechase in a time of 9:54.70.
4x400m Relay
The relay team of Alex Hill, Daniel Harrison, Michael McEnany, and Malcolm Nunley turned in a fourth-place finish in a time of 3:20.56.
