AWENDAW, S.C. - Wake Forest senior Lee Bedford aced the 172-yard par-3 third hole at Bulls Bay Country Club on Monday to pace the Demon Deacons to a second round 299 at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
As a team, the Deacons are 21-over par and in 14th place with a round to go.
The hole-in-one was Bedford's first in competition as a Demon Deacon and the third of his career. His round on Monday got off to a wobbly start as he found himself 6-over par through 11 holes. Thanks to a perfectly struck 8-iron on No. 3, Bedford would play the final seven holes at 3-under par en route to posting a 3-over 75. He is currently in a tie for 25th at 1-over for the event.
Junior Evan Beck opened with a round of 5-over 77 on Sunday but rebounded with a team-low 2-over 74 in round two. He made a total of three birdies in the round and is now tied for 58th at 7-over par.
Sophomore Thomas Birdsey is also 7-over par after his second round 75. Birdsey went out in 4-over 39 but just like Beck, he would play his final nine holes at 1-under par.
Charlie Harrison has started the tournament with a pair of matching 75s. He's made three birdies in each of the two rounds and is tied for 53rd at 6-over par.
Sophomore John Varol carded a 79 for the second-straight day and stands at 14-over par through two rounds.
Auburn shot the round of the day, a 13-under 275 and has opened-up a 7-shot lead on SEC-rival Kentucky and Texas A&M. The Tigers are 16-under through 36-holes. NC State and North Carolina represent the ACC in fourth and fifth place at 6-under and 5-under par, respectively.
Individually, Texas A&M's Cameron Peck leads the way at 7-under par. He has made just three bogeys in his two rounds of 70-67. Blayne Barber of Auburn is in second place 6-under par and there is a seven-way tie for third at 3-under.
Just like the second round, the Demon Deacons will be paired with College of Charleston and Wisconsin on Tuesday. The group will in the final wave off the tenth tee beginning at 8:50 a.m. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
