WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will look to snap a four-match skid on Sunday when it hosts No. 29 Brown and ETSU at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The Demon Deacons will take on the Bears at 11 a.m. and the Buccaneers at 4 p.m.
Forced to compete a player short last weekend, the Deacons dropped tough road decisions to William & Mary and No. 42 VCU. Kayla Duncan, who is ranked No. 66 nationally in singles, was a bright spot for Wake Forest, winning both of her matches at the No. 1 position.
The match against VCU also saw Ryann Cutillo claim a win at No. 2 singles and freshman Rebecca Siegler get her first-ever victory in the top half of the lineup with a win at No. 3.
Kathryn Talbert, who was away from the team for personal reasons last week, will return this weekend to bolster the Wake Forest lineup. Talbert and Duncan form the 56th-ranked doubles team in the country and have gone 5-1 at No. 1 doubles. Their reunion should help spark the Wake Forest doubles lineup that started the season by winning five straight doubles points before dropping the opening point in the last three matches.
After a 10-3 start to the season, Brown has shot up the doubles rankings to No. 29. The Bears have gone 1-2 against the ACC this season, splitting two matches with Boston College and falling on the road at North Carolina. Misia Krasowski played No. 1 singles for Brown in its most recent match.
ETSU sits at 3-4, though it won its two most recent matches against Liberty and Western Carolina. Paula Jaime and Marine Wieliczko have split time at No. 1 singles. The Buccaneers have used three different teams at No. 1 doubles this season.
