Sarah Brobeck & Paul Loeser Named Academic All-District

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest seniors Sarah Brobeck and Paul Loeser have been named to the Capital One Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District first team as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
For Brobeck, this marks the third straight season she has earned first team honors, while Loeser is on the first team for the second consecutive season. Both student-athletes now advance to their respective national ballots for Academic All-America consideration.
Brobeck, who graduate from Wake Forest last week, was the top competitor in the throwing events for the Demon Deacons. This past season, Brobeck placed fifth in the javelin at the ACC Outdoor Championships. She also took home 11th in the shot put at the ACC Indoor Championships over the winter.
Brobeck finished her career ranked in the top 10 in three categories on the school's all-time performance list. She ranks second in the javelin with a throw of 141-4 in 2012, fifth in the shot put with a throw of 44-3.5 in 2012 and seventh in the discus with a throw of 134-9 in 2011.
Off the track, Brobeck graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in chemistry, carrying a 3.86 cumulative grade point average entering the Spring semester. In addition to earning Academic All-District honors in 2010 and 2011, the Salem, Ohio native is a three-year ACC Honor Roll recipient.
Loeser, who also graduated last week, competed in cross country and middle distance events for Wake Forest. He was one of three Deacons to earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals, qualifying in the 3,000m steeplechase. Loeser finished 28th at the Regionals to end his collegiate career.
Loeser earned All-ACC honors with a third-place finish in the steeplechase at the 2012 ACC Outdoor Championships. He won the steeplechase at the Raleigh Relays this past May with a career-best time of 8:57.21.
In cross country, Loeser has been one of team's top five runners each of the past four seasons. This past fall the Winston-Salem native finished second overall at the Covered Bridge Open with an 8k time of 25:40.2.
In addition to earning Academic All-District honors in 2011, Loeser was named to the All-ACC Academic Outdoor team in 2009 and 2011, the All-ACC Academic Indoor team in 2012 and the NCAA Division I All-Academic team in 2011.
Loeser graduated Summa Cum Laude with degrees in biology and Spanish, carrying a 3.91 cumulative grade point average entering the Spring semester.
An active volunteer, Loeser is a two-time recipient of the ACC's Top Six for Service award, which recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated outstanding community service and community relations.
To be eligible for academic all-district honors, a student-athlete must be at least of sophomore standing, have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have participated in at least 50 percent of the competitions. District 3 consists of NCAA Division I colleges and universities located in the states of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The first team members from the eight districts will now be placed on the national ballot, which will be voted on between June 5-12. The Academic All-Americans will be announced on June 21.
