Lincoln to Compete in Javelin at NCAAs on Thursday

Wake Forest junior Ben Lincoln will compete in the javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa. The competition will take place on the campus of Drake University at historic Drake Stadium, which also hosted the 2011 Outdoor Championships.
The meet begins on Wednesday afternoon with the men's discus throw and will last through Saturday evening with the 4x400 meter relay marking the meet's conclusion. Lincoln is scheduled to throw at approximately 2:30 p.m. CST on Thursday afternoon.
Lincoln advanced to the NCAA finals after finishing 10th at the East Regional First Round on May 24 with a throw of 220-0 (67.06 meters). The top 12 finishers from both the East and West Regions advanced to the NCAA Championship.
Lincoln will be making his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Finals in the javelin, as the Hingham, Mass., native placed 21st overall in 2011 at the event. Lincoln currently owns the school record of 240-3 (73.23 meters) in the javelin, which he recorded at the ACC Championship en route to collecting All-ACC honors with a third-place finish.
"Ben has worked hard all year and has earned the right to throw far at the NCAA Championships this week," said Wake Forest Throws Coach Zeb Sion. "He has had quality training sessions and maintained a high level of focus, so hopefully it will be an exciting competition."
Lincoln has finished first in the javelin at three different meets this season, including the Wake Forest Open (234-3 / 71.41 m) and the Georgia Tech Invitational (227-1 / 69.22 m). Additionally, he has already surpassed the Olympic Trials standard qualifying mark of 70 meters.
