Allison Emrey Shoots 73 on Day 2 of Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Wake Forest sophomore Allison Emrey made three birdies in her round of 1-over 73 on Monday to pace the women's golf team in the second round of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall.

Emrey opened her round with back-to-back bogeys on her first two holes but rebounded to play 1-under par the rest of the way. She is currently in a tie for 42nd at 3-over par for the tournament.

As a team, the Demon Deacons have carded rounds of 297 and 301 and are in 18th place at 22-over. Florida, who was playing with Wake Forest on Monday, leads the tournament after carding a round of 9-under 279. The Gators are 11-under par and three shots clear of Southern Cal.

"I think we're getting better each time out," said Wake Forest head coach Dianne Dailey. "We didn't score as well today but I can see improvement. Overall, we're still a bit of a young team that's learning. But the important thing is that we're making strides in the right direction, which I'm happy about."

Junior Olafia Kristinsdottir shook off a tough opening round on Sunday and would post a 2-over 74 on Monday. Like Emrey, her round included three birdies.

Sophomore Marissa Dodd and freshman Mariana Sims each carded rounds of 5-over 77 on Monday. Dodd made three birdies, including a solid birdie-four on her final hole of the day while Sims made one birdie to go along with 12 pars.

After a superb opening round of even-par 72, sophomore Emily Wright had a bit of an up-and-down day on Monday. She made a total of 16 pars in her round on Sunday, but had just seven on Monday. Wright posted a second round 79 and is now in a tie for 72nd at 7-over par.

A pair of Gators are atop the individual leaderboard as Camilla Hedberg and Isabelle Lendl lead the way. Hedberg fired a 6-under 66 on Monday and is 9-under for the tournament while Lendl is two shots back after a 2-under 70.

The final round is set to being with a 9 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday morning.
