WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -Wake Forest cross country will compete in its third race of the season on Friday in the fifth annual Charlotte Invitational at historic McAlpine Creek Park.
This year's event will be one of the largest meets in the Southeast, with 44 women's teams and 41 men's teams set to compete.
Due to the large number of teams competing, the meet will be split into four races, including men's and women's gold "A" races, along with men's and women's green "B" races.
The meet will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. with the women's 6k "A" race, and the "B" race will begin at 4:50 p.m. The men's 8k "A" event will start at 4:41 p.m., followed by the men's B" race at 5:20 p.m.
"It's a very flat course," said senior Nate Guthals. "They might have changed it up a little this year so it's not going to be the same route as it has been the past two years that we've gone, but there's still not that big of a difference in the terrain. It's pretty fast, and most of the guys really like to run there."
Along with Wake Forest, schools competing in the race include ACC rivals like Florida State, Clemson and Virginia Tech, as well as out-of-conference teams like Appalachia State, USC Upstate and Davidson.
"This is my favorite cross country course," said junior Nicole Irving."This meet will be little bit different, so I'm curious to see what the course is."
Full team and individual results will be available Friday at www.timinginc.com following the conclusion of both races.
