Wake Forest Comes Up Short at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -Wake Forest came up short on Sunday afternoon against Miami who defeated the Deacs 3-0 (11-25, 17-25, 15-25) in a match broadcasted live on ESPN3.
Anna Carley led the Deacs with 10 kills while Kylie Hargreaves chipped in seven. Megan Miller had eight digs for Wake Forest. Carley has tallied double-digit kills in back-to-back matches after registering 10 against No.14 Florida State on Friday.
Miami won the first set 25-11 even though both teams were close throughout the first few points. Hargreaves buried a kill to put the Demon Deacons up 5-4, but the Hurricanes went on a scoring streak to win the set.
In the second set, the Canes jumped out early but Wake Forest narrowed Miami's lead to as little as 15-13 midway through. After a kill from Anna Carley and an attack error on the Hurricanes made the score 21-17 in favor of Miami, the Canes closed out the set on a 4-0 run to win 25-17.
Both teams battled to start the third set after Hargreaves captured the first point of the set with a service ace. Carley registered a kill which was followed by an attack error from Miami to even the set at five, but the Canes went up and held onto the lead eventually winning 25-15.
Kristin Grissom had four kills while Andrea Beck had three. Danae Rosendall paced the Deacs with 22 assists.
Emani Sims led Miami (12-3/4-1 ACC) with 14 kills offensively with Alex Johnson helping with nine.
Wake Forest (6-10/0-4 ACC) returns to action next weekend with a home match against Boston College at 7 p.m. on Friday and a match against Maryland on Saturday at 5 p.m.
