WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Anna Kozniuk registered two goals on Sunday afternoon as No. 14 Wake Forest defeated James Madison 5-1 at Kentner Stadium.
Taylor Rhea, Holly Brown and Jess Newak all added a goal for the Demon Deacons who improve to 10-6 on the season. James Madison falls to 8-7 with the loss.
Valerie Dahmen made two saves as the Deacs held a 23-7 advantage in shots over the Dukes. James Madison scored first in the game but Wake Forest held the Dukes scoreless while tallying five goals.
Adrienne le Vatte deposited a rebound 2:44 into the game to put James Madison up early on the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest countered in the 13th minute as Taylor Rhea bombed a shot from the top of the circle which was deflected by Brown for the equalizing goal.
Newak scored the eventual game winner for her fifth of the season to make it 2-1. Kozniuk made it a 3-1 game with 14:07 remaining in the half after she scored off a pass from Newak.
Coming out of halftime, Kozniuk converted on a pass from Kari Walkley which came on a penalty corner from Christine Conroe.
With a 4-1 lead, Rhea scored off a pass from Conroe in the 59th minute which made it a 5-1 final in favor of Wake Forest. Tarafas made 10 saves for James Madison. Wake Forest also held a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
The Demon Deacons (10-6, 0-4 ACC) head to Syracuse next Saturday afternoon for a 1 p.m. ACC showdown.
