Deacons Open Play at UVA Fall Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Wake Forest advanced to two singles semifinals and two doubles semis on the first day of the UVA Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
Nicky Kunz and Nolan Bauer led the way in singles, each winning two matches to advance to the semis.
Kunz took down Binghamton's Robin Lesage 6-2, 6-3 in his opening match before blasting Radford's Nick Sayer 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. Bauer, playing in the first tournament of his career, cruised past Radford's Daniel Myers 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and followed it up with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over George Washington's Viktor Svennson.
Both of Wake Forest's doubles teams also advanced to the semifinals of their flights. Kunz and Maksim Kan defeated Sayer and Patrick O'Keefe of Radford 8-4, and Bauer teamed with Jaya Billa to down Robin Riethmueller and Igor Braga of Norfolk State.
Kan, also making his career debut, beat Liberty's Dillon Segur in a first round singles match for the first singles win of his career. Billa also won his first singles match against Niels Kathol of JMU.
