No. 1 Demon Deacons Sweep North Carolina on the Road

Wake Forest remains unbeaten in conference play with four matches remaining.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the first of three Big Four clashes this season, the No. 1-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team took down rival North Carolina, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the Chewning Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons (24-2, 9-0 ACC) further cemented their place atop the conference standings as the only unbeaten team in ACC play. The Deacs already control the head-to-head tiebreaker against second-place Virginia and are set to end the regular season at home against NC State.
ACC Standings Through March 27
Wake Forest has now won 24 consecutive ACC regular-season matches following a flawless run last year and has totaled 125 conference victories since the start of the 2013 campaign, good for second during that span.
The Demon Deacons have also taken 12 of the last 15 meetings against the Tar Heels dating back to 2015. Overall against Big Four opposition, head coach Tony Bresky is 33-20 (.623) for his career, including an above-.500 mark in road environments (11-9).
Following the sweep, Wake Forest holds a combined 85-17 record in singles and a 51-9 mark in doubles, including 11 sweeps in its last 13 matches (seven of nine in ACC play).
The Deacs took the opening point for the 23rd time this season and for the 14th consecutive match, including all nine in ACC play, with wins on courts one and two.
Senior DK Suresh Ekambaram and redshirt freshman Andrew Delgado, the No. 5-ranked pair in the country, earned a dominant 6-0 victory over No. 20 Jones/Wright on court one. The duo improved to 7-0 together this spring and picked up its second ranked win of the season.
Delgado is now 13-0 in doubles this campaign, while Suresh secured the 92nd win of his career, moving into a tie for fifth in program history with Trent Brendon (2000-03) and David Hopkins (2008-13).
Career Doubles Wins - Wake Forest History
On the second doubles court, sophomore Kacper Szymkowiak and freshman Mees Rottgering continued their dominant run together with a 6-2 win over Ratiu/Xu to clinch the opening point and remain a perfect 6-0 as a duo.
After taking the first set on five of the six singles courts against the Tar Heels, the Demon Deacons closed it out on courts one, two and six.
Extending his team lead to 17 singles wins with just two losses, sophomore Joaquin Guilleme was the first player off the court after a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Kase Schinnerer on court six.
Rottgering followed up his doubles win with his fifth consecutive singles victory on court two, downing Chris Xu (6-3, 6-3). The three-time ACC Freshman of the Week is now 11-2 on the year and has played a major role in the Deacs' 17-match winning streak. Of note, Wake Forest freshmen have now accounted for 33 wins this season, led by the Dutchman.
With the match score at 3-0, Suresh closed out a straight-sets (7-6[3], 6-3) win over No. 54 Roan Jones on court one. This marked his second ranked win of the campaign and first since defeating No. 5 Duncan Chan of TCU in Waco.

- The doubles point opened with the Demon Deacons taking immediate control, as the No. 5-ranked duo of Suresh/Delgado cruised to a dominant 6-0 victory over No. 20 Jones/Wright on court one.
- On court two, Rottgering/Szymkowiak followed suit, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before closing out a 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point.
- The third doubles match featuring Pow/Robertson went unfinished at 4-4.
- Wake Forest carried that momentum into singles, claiming first sets on courts one (Suresh), two (Rottgering), four (Pow), five (Shah) and six (Guilleme), while Robertson dropped the opening set on court three.
- Guilleme extended the Deacs' lead to 2-0 with a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 victory on court six, finishing first.
- Rottgering followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court two to push Wake Forest within one point of the sweep.
- Suresh sealed the match in a ranked battle on court one, defeating No. 54 Roan Jones 7-6(3), 6-3 to secure the 4-0 victory.
- Matches on courts three, four and five went unfinished, with Wake Forest holding strong positions across the remaining courts.
