
Wake Forest Falls to Syracuse

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Behind 24 kills from Silvi Uattara, Syracuse downed Wake Forest 3-1 (25-27, 15-25, 25-19, 21-25) on Saturday night in Reynolds Gym.
Wake Forest falls to 15-9 overall and 4-8 in the ACC while Syracuse improves to 11-13 overall and 6-6 in conference.
Kristin Grissom led Wake Forest with 14 kills along with two solo blocks and two block assists. Jazmen Russell chipped in 10 kills while Ashlee Rusk had nine and Matalee Reed had four. Sophia Dodd had 40 assists while Megan Miller tallied 22 digs.
Wake Forest nearly took set one after both teams battled to a 24-24 tie. Nicolette Serratore registered an attack error but on the next play evened the score with a kill at 25 all. Syracuse then used a kill and a block to win the long first set 27-25.
Syracuse built a 20-10 lead in the second set but Wake Forest climbed back into it only to fall 25-15.
The two teams fought to a 14-14 tie in the third set until Wake Forest pulled ahead with a three-point run following kills from Russell, Reed and Anna Carley forcing Syracuse to call a timeout. The Deacs eventually won the set 25-19 on a service ace from Carley.
The Orange went up 20-15 in the fourth set though Wake Forest pulled within two at 21-19 after a ball handling error from the `Cuse. Syracuse eventually won the set 25-21 and took the match 3-1.
Serratore had 15 kills for Syracuse who registered 14.5 blocks as a team.
Wake Forest heads to Pittsburgh next Friday, Nov. 8 and Maryland on Nov. 10.
