Wake Forest will open the 2013 Battle 4 Atlantis against No. 2-ranked Kanas on Thursday at the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST at the Imperial Arena. The game will be broadcast on AXS TV and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest is coming off an 82-54 win over The Citadel last Thursday in Winston-Salem. Senior Travis McKie led the way with a great all-around game, finishing with 10 points, six rebounds, five blocks, four steals and four assists.
Coron Williams provided the long-range shooting, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range to score 12 points on the night.
The Deacons were efficient on offense with 21 assists and just seven turnovers. Guards Codi Miller-McIntyre (8/1) and Madison Jones (5/0) combined for 13 assists (11 in the second half) and one turnover.
Wake Forest Storylines
Coron Williams has made 14 3-pointers combined over the past three games. He is the first Deacon to accomplish the feat since Justin Gray made 15 over three games in 2005-06.
Wake Forest leads the ACC in rebounding with 49.2 rebounds per game, as the Deacons have won the rebounding battle in every game this year. Devin Thomas leads all conference players with 11.6 boards per game.
The Deacons are second in the ACC in scoring with 85.6 points per game. Wake Forest has scored 80+ points in four games already this season, matching last year's season total.
The Opposition
No. 2-ranked Kansas is 4-0 on the season entering this week's tournament. The Jayhawks have home wins over ULM, Iona and Towson as well as a neutral site victory over ACC rival Duke.
Kansas is led in scoring by freshman Andrew Wiggins (16.8 ppg) and sophomore Perry Ellis (16.8), while freshman Joel Embiid (8.0 rpg) has been the Jayhawks' top rebounder.
Series History
The Wake Forest-Kansas series is tied at two wins apiece. The teams are meeting for the first time since a 2001 game in Lawrence.
Wake Forest and Kansas have met twice in the NCAA Tournament, with the Deacons winning in 1984 and the Jayhawks winning in 1994.
Wake Forest and Kansas also played a home-and-home series in 2000 and 2001, as each squad won at home.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will face either USC or Villanova in the second round of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Friday. The Deacons are 1-0 all-time vs. USC with a win in 1954. Villanova leads the series with Wake Forest 7-2, as the teams first met during the 1930-31 campaign.
Following the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Deacons return home to host Tulane on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.
