Gold Takes Series Lead over Black in World Series

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Gold team won Game 3 of the Black & Gold World Series 9-6 behind a strong offensive performance by Will Craig who went 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored on Tuesday night at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Gold now leads Black in the World Series 2-1 after winning the last two games.
Craig produced three singles at the plate to account for his 3-for-3 day while starting at third base. Kevin Conway was the only other Gold team member with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. Kevin Jordan (3), Nate Mondou (2) and Garrett Kelly (2) each drove in multiple runs, as well.
Black had more hits than Gold by a 12-11 margin, although the team came out on the losing end. Joe Napolitano led the way by going 3-for-5 with two runs driven in, while Joey Rodriguez and Matt Conway picked up two hits apiece.
The Gold team pitchers used the strikeout to their advantage throughout the game, collecting 13 Ks. Aaron Fossas started and got the win, pitching 3.0 innings and striking out four. John McCleod pitched 2.0 innings and struck out two, Connor Kaden pitched 3.0 innings and struck out five and Mark McCoy pitched 1.0 inning and struck out two.
Gold never trailed in the game, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. Mondou walked and stole second base before Charlie Morgan scored him on a single to left field. Later in the inning, Gold loaded the bases with one out for Kevin Jordan, and he provided a two-run single. The final run of the inning came off a Black team error.
Black would get as close as two runs after making it 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but Gold answered with a three spot in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Game 4 of the Black & Gold World Series will be on Friday at 5:30 p.m., while the fifth and final game will take place on Sunday at 12 p.m.
