Wake Forest Welcomes Local Foe UNCG on Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team will continue its eight-match homestand on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. as the squad welcomes local foe UNCG to the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
The meeting will be the first between the two schools since 2005 and just the fifth since 1981. After dropping the first two matches in the all-time series, Wake Forest has strung together five straight wins and leads the overall series 5-2.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest played a pair of very close matches against Winthrop and No. 47 VCU last weekend, but came up just short by a 4-3 margin in both.
Senior Kathryn Talbert claimed Wake's first win over a ranked individual this spring by downing No. 46 Salome Kvitashvili of VCU 7-6 (7-4), 5-2 at the top singles spot on Saturday.
Freshman Kasey Gardiner continued her early roll through the spring as well, moving to 4-0 with a pair of victories on the weekend.
Today's Opponent
UNCG, a member of the Southern Conference, enters at 1-2. The Spartans defeated Campbell 6-1 in the last time out last Saturday.
Top Wake Forest Storylines
Wake Forest will be looking to continue their run of success against the Spartans, having won the previous five meetings between the two.
Gardiner earned the first tiebreaker victory of her career in the opening set against Olga Terteac last Saturday.
Xue Zhang played at No. 4 singles last weekend, picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win against Yukako Noi on Saturday.
Next Up
The Demon Deacons will be back in action next Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. against No. 43 Long Beach State at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. The match will be the fourth in an eight-match homestand.
The meeting will also be the first ever between the two programs. The 49ers are currently ranked No. 43 in the country and boast a 4-1 overall record with a perfect 3-0 mark in Big West matches.
