
Deacons Open NCAA Regional With Round of 299

NORMAN, Okla. - The Wake Forest women's golf team opened the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday with a round of 11-over 299 and is in 17th place in the 24-team field.
Individually, junior Olafia Kristinsdottir led the Deacons with an even-par 72. She bogeyed the first and the 17th holes but made a pair of birdies in between along with 14 pars. The 72 is her lowest round since a she carded a 72 in the final round of the LSU Golf Classic in March. Kristinsdottir will start the second round in a tie for 26th.
Sophomore Allison Emrey also made 14 pars in her round and finished with a 2-over 74. She is tied for 48th heading into Friday. Freshman Mariana Sims made four birdies and was 1-under par through 16 holes but she found trouble on the closing two holes and finished with a 3-over 75.
Junior Marissa Dodd carded an opening 6-over 78 and senior Greta Lange followed with a 7-over 79.
Florida got three under-par rounds and finished with a 6-under 282 to lead the field. The top-8 teams at the end of the tournament will earn a berth in the NCAA Championship. Currently, there are four teams tied for seventh place at 4-over par.
Individually, Oklahoma's Emily Collins fired a 5-under 67 on her home course to hold the individual lead after the first round. The top-2 individuals not on the eight qualifying teams will also earn a berth to the championship.
The Demon Deacons will start the second round at 8:30 a.m. ET off the tenth tee. Wake is paired again with Coastal Carolina and TCU. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final two rounds.
