Wake Forest Finishes 7th at Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team carded a final round 298 and finished in seventh place at the season-opening Cougar Classic on Tuesday.
The Deacons posted rounds of 287-294-298 over the three days and finished at 15-over par. Last season in the same event, Wake finished in 17th place at 36-over par.
Florida caught fire on Tuesday and carded a 7-under 281, the lowest round of the tournament, and came back to nip Clemson by a shot for the team title. The Gators finished at 5-under par while Clemson posted a final round 293 and finished at 4-under par.
For the Deacons, junior Marissa Dodd carded rounds of 68-75-74 to finish in a tie for 13th at 1-over par. Dodd made three birdies in her round on Tuesday and finished with nine for the week.
Freshmen Sierra Sims and Elizabeth Doty each had solid showings in their first career events. Sims opened with a 2-over 74 but posted scores of 71-73 over the final two rounds and finished in a tie 19th at 2-over par. Doty shot rounds of 71-72 in the first two rounds and finished at 4-over par after a final round 77. Doty led the team with 10 birdies on the week.
Senior Olafia Kristinsdottir sandwiched a 76 with a pair of 75s to finish in a tie for 50th at 10-over par. The Iceland native made a total of 38 pars over the 54-hole event. Junior Allison Emrey finished the tournament with rounds of 74-78-76 (+12) and was tied for 64th.
Florida's Anna Young not only led her team to victory with a bogey-free 67 on Tuesday, but she also claimed individual honors. Young finished at 5-under par, one shot better than a trio of players.
The Demon Deacons will return to action on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Mason Rudolph Challenge at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Nashville, Tenn.
