Deacs Near Perfect on First Day of Fall Season

CARY, N.C. - Romain Bogaerts and Anthony Delcore earned a win over a Top 20 doubles team as the Wake Forest men's tennis team got its season off to a hot start, going a combined 7-1 in singles and doubles at the Duke Fab Four Invitational at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Bogaerts and Delcore teamed up to take down 16th-ranked Stefan Fortmann and Cameron Silverman of Elon 8-6 before beating NC State's Nick Horton and Thomas Weigel 8-5 in the semifinals to reach the final of the Blue Doubles flight. They will face North Carolina's Nelson Vick and Oystein Steiro for the title tomorrow.
In other doubles action, Nicky Kunz and Nicholas Osterling took down Scott Huang and Damon Niquet from William & Mary 8-5 in the White Doubles draw before falling to Duke's TJ Pura and Bruno Semenzato 8-5.
All four Deacons won their first singles matches of the tournament Friday.
The top seed in the Blue Singles draw, No. 5 Bogaerts cruised by VCU's Wilder Pimental 6-2, 6-1 in his opening round match. Also in Blue Singles, Delcore defeated John Banks from William & Mary 6-2, 6-3. Bogaerts will take on Van Damrongsri (Louisville) in the quarterfinals tomorrow, while Delcore will face No. 49 Raphael Hemmeler of Duke.
Kunz topped Joe Mills of Radford 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of Black Singles, and Osterling won a tight 7-6 (6), 7-6 (6), match with Louisville's Chris Simich in the opening round of White Singles. Osterling faces a tough match with No. 22 Michael Redlicki from Duke in the quarterfinals, and Kunz will face North Carolina's Steiro.
