KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kristin Grissom registered 16 kills on Saturday as Wake Forest volleyball defeated UMKC 3-1 (25-15, 25-27, 25-17, 25-11) to win the Kangaroo Klassic tournament. Grissom was named the MVP while Kylie Hargreaves and Megan Miller earned All-Tournament Team honors.

Wake Forest moves to 8-1 on the season while UMKC falls to 5-5.

Hargreaves tallied 13 kills in the win while Miller had 29 digs. Ashlee Rusk had seven block assists and three solo blocks to go with Hargreaves' seven block assists and 15 digs. Sophia Dodd had 30 assists.

With the score deadlocked at 9-9 in the first set, Wake Forest went on an 11-2 run to go up 20-11. Dodd assisted Jazmen Russell who had the final kill of the set to help the Demon Deacons win 25-15.

UMKC went up late in the second set to lead 24-20 before Wake Forest came back to tie the game at 24 in a run that was highlight by two blocks from Russell and Grissom. After the teams traded points, the Kangaroos had two points to win the set 27-25.

The third set remained close again with the score tied at 14 but the Deacs went on a 11-3 run to win the set 25-17. Hargreaves had a solo block and a block assist with Rusk to go with a balanced attack from Wake Forest to win the set and go up 2-1 in the match.

Down 8-5 in the fourth set, the Deacs outscored the Kangaroos 20-3 to take the set 25-11 and win the match 3-1.

Morgan Voorhes had 12 kills for UMKC while Sydney Crimmins had 10. The Kangaroos had a team hitting percentage of .039.

Wake Forest heads on the road next weekend to play at JMU on Friday in the James Madison tournament and will play Cleveland State and Campbell on Saturday.
