WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 18 Wake Forest field hockey extended its winning streak to four games on Sunday as the Demon Deacons defeated William & Mary 4-0 at Kentner Stadium.
Jess Newak and Holly Brown scored two goals each in the win while Newak, Taylor Rhea, Kari Walkley and Anna Kozniuk all tallied assists. Valerie Dahmen posted her first shutout of the season making one save.
Newak registered the first goal of the game off a pass from Rhea on a fast break to put the Deacs on the board at the 14:12 mark.
Brown scored a little over six minutes later for her first goal as a Demon Deacon off a pass from Kozniuk putting Wake Forest up 2-0 heading into halftime.
Just six minutes into the second half, Brown capitalized off a nifty pass from Newak for her second goal of the game. Following a goalie change for the Tribe, Newak scored her second of the match off a pass from Walkley, giving the Deacs a 4-0 lead.
The Deacs' defense was stingy throughout the entire game, allowing only three shots total for the Tribe, two of which came in the final minute of the second half.
Cate Johnson made five saves for William & Mary (2-4) while Meredith Savage had two saves.
Wake Forest (5-1) opens up ACC play on Sept. 20 at Maryland.
