ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Tech used a 20-5 run to seize control of the game and down Wake Forest 79-63 on Thursday evening at the McCamish Pavilion.

The loss was the fourth-straight for the Demon Deacons who fall to 9-8 on the year and 0-4 in the ACC.

The Deacs used a 6-0 run to tie the game at 21-21 with 6:16 left in the first half but Tech stepped-up the defensive pressure and went on a 20-5 run to swing the momentum. The Yellow Jackets forced Wake Forest into a season-high 29 turnovers on the night and scored 32 points off of those miscues.

Junior Dearica Hamby, playing in front of her hometown crowd, recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds. She also tied a season-high five assists

Chelsea Douglas went 8-of-9 from the free throw line and finished with 15 points. Freshman Jill Brunori had a second-straight solid game with eight points and six rebounds. Junior Millesa Calicott provided a spark off the bench and finished with eight points and three assists.

Four Yellow Jackets (12-5, 2-2 ACC) scored in double-figures led by freshman Kaela Davis' 23 points.

The Deacons shot 40 percent from the floor and wound-up out-rebounding Tech 38-37 but the difference in the contest was the turnovers.

Wake Forest came out of the gate a little sloppy with turnovers in its first four possessions. Tech raced-out to a 5-0 lead in the first two minutes and forced a Wake Forest timeout. The Deacons then rebounded with a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 10-9.

The first half featured runs back and forth by each team. With Tech in front 21-15, Hamby got a lay-in and then finished on the break off a great pass from freshman Ataijah Taylor to even the score at 21-21. The Jackets then took advantage of some sloppy play by the Deacs to answer with a 14-0 run and push the lead out to 35-21. The Deacons had four turnovers and were 0-5 from the floor during the drought.

Thanks to the run and 50 percent shooting from the floor, Georgia Tech took a 42-26 lead at the break.

The start to the second half was all Jackets as the hosts scored the first nine points and opened-up a 51-26 lead. The Deacons never got back into the game after that spurt. Wake cut the margin to 20 at 57-37 with 12 minutes left but would not get back within 20 until less than four minutes to play.

Wake Forest remains on the road as it travels to Clemson on Monday, Jan. 20, for a clash with the Tigers. The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m. and will be shown the Regional Sports Network.
