WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team was ranked 19th in the 2014 ITA Preseason Rankings, marking their highest preseason rank since 2010.
In the singles rankings, sophomore Romain Bogaerts led the way at No. 20 and was joined by No. 59 Adam Lee and No. 93 Anthony Delcore. Lee and Pedro Dumont were ranked 30th in doubles.
The Demon Deacons return five lineup regulars from last year's squad that reached the finals of the ACC Championship for only the second time in program history, peaking at No. 19 in the ITA Rankings.
This year's team is bolstered by the additions of Mississippi State transfers Romain Bogaerts and Pedro Dumont, Davidson transfer Nicky Kunz, as well as four freshmen - highlighted by blue chip recruit Maksim Kan.
Several Deacons had strong fall seasons, led by Bogaerts, last year's ITA National Rookie of the Year, who beat three ranked players and reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Carolina Regional. Kan also impressed in the fall, winning the A Singles title at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational that included a victory over then-No. 28 Esben Hess-Olesen of North Carolina.
The lone senior on this year's team, Lee also notched three ranked wins in the fall to propel him to his career-high ranking of No. 59.
Wake Forest will open dual match play at home on Jan. 11 with a doubleheader against Coastal Carolina and Charlotte. The Demon Deacons host the Chanticleers at 10 a.m. and the 49ers at 6 p.m. at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
