Wake Forest will open its 61st season of play in the Atlantic Coast Conference when the Demon Deacons host No. 19-ranked North Carolina on Sunday evening in Winston-Salem.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the LJVM Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest is coming off a 68-53 loss at Xavier in the Skip Prosser Classic on Dec. 28 in Cincinnati. The Musketeers broke open a close game with a 16-0 stretch late in the first half.
Codi Miller-McIntyre led the Demon Deacons with 11 points and four assists, hitting double figures for the sixth game in a row.
Coron Williams added 10 points, all in the first half, on 4-of-6 shooting.
Arnaud William Adala Moto led Wake Forest on the boards with six rebounds, and Travis McKie chipped in five boards.
The game was the fourth in a series between Wake Forest and Xavier that honors the late Skip Prosser, who coached at both schools. The series is now tied 2-2 with the home team winning all four games.
Wake Forest Storylines
Sunday's game is a matchup of two of the top rebounding teams in the country. Wake Forest leads the ACC and ranks 11th nationally in rebounding (42.8 rpg), while UNC is third in the league and 18th in the nation (41.2).
The Deacons also feature the ACC's leading rebounder in Devin Thomas, who pulls down 9.3 boards per game.
Wake Forest has won 10 straight games at the Joel Coliseum, dating back to last year's season finale. It marks the Deacs' longest home winning streak since winning 16 straight at the Joel between 2007 and 2008.
Coron Williams has just four turnovers in 319 minutes on the year. He is the only player in the ACC to have played at least 250 minutes this season with fewer than 10 turnovers.
Codi Miller-McIntyre ranks ninth in the ACC in scoring (17.0), assists (4.0) and field goal percentage (47.8). Miller-McIntyre and UNC's Marcus Paige are the only active players in the top 10 in both scoring and assists.
Series History
North Carolina leads the all-time series with Wake Forest by a 155-65 margin. In its 221st all-time meeting since 1910, the Wake Forest-North Carolina series is the sixth-most frequent in ACC history.
The Deacons are 2-1 all-time in ACC openers against the Tar Heels, including a 92-89 win to start the 2008-09 conference campaign.
Wake Forest and UNC will meet twice this year, marking just the third season in the past decade that the rivals have played multiple times. The teams met at least twice a year every year from 1922-2004.
