DURHAM, N.C. - Duke scored the first and last goals of the game in a 2-1 victory over Wake Forest women's soccer at Koskinen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Claudia Day scored the first goal of her career, but it was not enough for the Demon Deacons (3-8-8, 1-4-1 ACC).

Duke's (7-6-1, 3-2-1) Toni Payne put the Blue Devils on the board first less than six minutes in, when she finished into the upper-90 on a Katie Trees pass.

A clinical corner from Kendall Fischlein found Day in front of the net, and Day headed it into the corner of the net to even the score at 1-1 in the 37th minute.

The Deacs had a chance to take the lead with a big flurry in the 62nd minute. Off a Fischlein corner, Ally Haran put a shot on goal and Kim Marshall's shot off the rebound sailed high.

Seconds later, Day had a pair of chances to score her second goal of the evening, but each of her two headers was saved by a defender at the goal line.

Duke connected on the game-winner in the 74th minute. Schuyler DeBree sent a long ball into the box, and Ashton Miller sent a long header over keeper Lindsay Preston's head.

Wake Forest was unable to get a shot off in the final 15 minutes.

Preston finished with five saves in goal for the Demon Deacons.

The Deacons will close out their three-game road swing at No. 9-ranked Virginia Tech (Oct. 18).
