WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team fell in three sets to the No. 22-ranked Duke Blue Devils 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Gym. Jazmen Russell lead the way for the Deacs with 13 kills but it wasn't enough to beat Duke.

Wake Forest falls to 12-7 overall and 2-3 in the ACC with the loss. Duke remains undefeated in conference play as they improve to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in the ACC after the victory.

The Demon Deacons took an early 4-0 lead to begin the set. Wake Forest continued to hold the lead until Duke tied up the set 9-9 and took a 10-9 lead after a kill from Jeme Obeime. The home side retook the lead and held a lead at 16-15. The Blue Devils then went on a 4-1 run to create a three point cushion 20-17 and Wake Forest called a timeout. Duke went on to close out the set 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set was tied up 4-4 at the beginning. A kill from Matalee Reed gave the Deacs a 5-4 lead, but Duke used a 4-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. The visitors then pushed their lead to as much as 17-9, which forced the Demon Deacons to call a timeout. Duke would go on to win the second set 25-15 and take a 2-0 lead heading into the 10 minute intermission.

After the break, the third set began the same as the second as both teams were tied 4-4 early on. Duke reeled off two straight points to take a 6-4 lead to break the tie. Wake Forest got within two points one last time, trailing 16-14, but Duke finished off the match with a 9-1 run to win the third set 25-15 and complete the 3-0 sweep of the Deacons.

NOTES:
• It was the first ACC home loss of the season for the Demon Deacons after winning their first two home conference matches against Virginia Tech and NC State.
• Russell recorded double-digit kills for the eighth consecutive match as she had 13 today.
• This was the first match this season for Wake Forest against a ranked opponent.
• With Duke hitting .383 for the match, they are the Deacs' third opponent this season to hit over .300 in a match.

UP NEXT:
• The Demon Deacons head up north for a two-game road trip beginning on Friday at Boston College at 8 p.m., and then at Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m.
