
Wake Forest Falls to Miami 3-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team fell in three sets in ACC action to the Miami Hurricanes 3-0 on Friday night in Reynolds Gym. Jazmen Russell led the way for the Deacs with a team-high 11 kills.
In addition to Russell, Matalee Reed added six kills and Ashlee Rusk added five kills and two block assists for the Demon Deacons.
With the loss, Wake Forest falls to 12-10 overall and 2-6 in the ACC, while the Miami Hurricanes improve to 14-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
Miami got off to an early 7-1 lead to begin the match, forcing the Deacs to call their first timeout. An 8-5 run made the Deacons call their second timeout with the Hurricanes' lead at 15-6. The visitors closed off a strong first set, outscoring Wake Forest 10-8 to take the first set 25-13.
In set two, the Deacons kept the set tight keeping the Hurricanes close only trailing 9-7. A 4-1 run extended Miami's lead 13-8, forcing the Demon Deacons to call a timeout. Following another run by the Canes, Ken Murczek called for time with the team trailing 17-10. Being down by as much as nine, the Deacs brought the match within six at 21-15, following a kill by Danae Rosendall. Miami went on to close out the set with a 4-1 run to win the second 25-16, and holding a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
The Deacons and the Canes were tight in the third set. Both teams were tied twice at 5-5 and 7-7, before Miami made a 4-0 run to create an 11-7 cushion to force the Deacs to call a timeout. Wake Forest called their second timeout of the set after trailing 17-13, but the Canes responded with another run of 3-1 to push their lead to 20-14.
The Deacons made a comeback with a 4-0 run to make it a two-point set, forcing Miami to call its first timeout of the match. It was a back-and-forth affair the final points, but the Hurricanes were able to close out the match with a 25-23 victory in the set to take a 3-0 victory in the match.
NOTES:
Jazmen Russell recorded her 11th consecutive double-digit kill performance with 11 against the Miami Hurricanes tonight.
Caroline Wolf, one of the best liberos in the conference, recorded less than six digs in a match for the first time this season. It was only the fourth time she recorded single digit digs.
Ashlee Rusk was involved in both of the team's two blocks in the match, recording two block assists for the Demon Deacons. Reigning ACC Player of the Week, Savanah Leaf, had a match-high 16 kills for the Canes

The Demon Deacons host the No. 4-ranked Florida State Seminoles on Sunday at noon in Reynolds Gym. The Seminoles will be the team's second ranked opponent this season.
