Deacons Take Lead at The Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Wake Forest University women's golf team climbed to the top of the team standings and finished the second round of The Landfall Tradition in a tie for first place with Oklahoma State. The Demon Deacons were 1-over for the day but are tied for first place at 1-under for the tournament.
Wake and OSU each have a combined total of 575 over the first two rounds, good enough for a three-stroke margin over Purdue and Virginia. The Boilermakers led by three shots following play on Friday, but slipped to a 7-over 295 in the second round. Virginia, meanwhile, rebounded from a 4-over 292 on opening day to shoot a 2-under 286 on Saturday.
Senior Allison Emrey carded a 3-under 69 in Saturday's second round of The Landfall Tradition hosted by UNC Wilmington at the Country Club at Landfall. She improved three strokes from her opening round 72 and jumped in to a tie for fourth place in the individual standings.
Junior Mariana Sims shot 1-under 71 to bring her two-day score to 145. She is tied for 18th place with sophomore Sierra Sims who carded a 76 on Saturday after an impressive opening round score of 69.
Freshman Erica Herr posted her second-straight round of 1-over 73 and is tied for 30th with a score of 146. Senior Marissa Dodd has a score of 150 (72-78) headed in to the final round.
Ashley Holder of UCF took over the individual lead with a 7-under 67-70=137. She owns a one-shot advantage over first round leader Nanna Madsen of South Carolina, who has a 66-72=138 total. Emrey's two-day total of 141 has her four strokes back of the lead.
Sunday's final round will feature a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Wake Forest will be paired with Oklahoma State and Purdue.
