LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Wake Forest wrapped up its 2014 season with a 10th-place finish out of 33 teams at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday at E.P. `Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
Sophomore Jacob Poyner led the Demon Deacons, finishing the 10k course in 31:34.3 for 51st place. It marks the second time this season that Poyner has been the first Deacon across the finish line.
Seniors Alexander Rose, Connor Crowley and Kyle Graves, competing in their final collegiate cross country meet, were second, third and fourth on the team respectively on Friday.
Rose took 62nd in 31:42.0, while Crowley was 73rd in 31:50.1. Graves finished in 32:00.0 for 87th place.
Junior Kent Garrett rounded out the Deacons' scoring five in 91st in 32:00.9.
Senior Tommy Ross and Alex Giacco completed Wake Forest's seven-man team at the regional. Ross finished up his collegiate career by finishing 97th in 32:10.6. Giacco was 147th in 33:12.9.
ACC rival Virginia won the meet with 75 points to advance to the NCAA Championships. Furman took second place with 79 points to also advance. The Paladins just beat out North Carolina for the automatic bid.
