Deacons Cruise Past Tennessee Tech 89-62

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore Mykia Jones put up a career-high 16 points to lead the Wake Forest women's basketball team to an 89-62 win over Tennessee Tech at the LJVM Coliseum. With the victory the Demon Deacons improve to 2-0 on the season.
Four Demon Deacons scored in double figures in the win led by senior Dearica Hamby with her 26th career double-double. Hamby finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jones scored a career-high 16 points. Freshman Taylor Gordon added 11 points and freshman Nicole Floyd contributed 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Wake Forest got 43 points off the bench in the contest.
Jones scored five-straight points to help the Deacons open up a 21-6 lead through the first seven minutes of the game. Jones' second three-pointer of the half gave the Deacons a 15-points lead, 26-11, with 9:25 remaining. Floyd scored the final basket of the first half to send Wake Forest to the locker room with a 45-28 lead.
Gordon scored all 11 of her points in the second half and helped the Deacs pull away with the 89-62 victory. Wake Forest outscored Tennessee Tech 42-28 in the paint and held a 50-28 advantage on the boards.
NOTES:
Mykia Jones had a career-high 16 points.
Dearica Hamby recorded the 26th double-double of her career with points and 12 rebounds.
Freshman Taylor Gordon added 11 points off the bench. She scored all 11 points in the second half.
Freshman Nicole Floyd finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Deacons won the rebounding battle for the second-straight game, with a 50-28 advantage on the boards on Tuesday.
Wake Forest got 43 points off the bench in the game.
