WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jazmen Russell was clutch in the fifth and final set with four kills and a solo block as the Wake Forest volleyball team defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 3-2 on Friday evening in ACC action at Reynolds Gym.

With the win, Wake Forest moves back above .500 for the season at 13-12 overall and 3-8 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets fall to 11-14 overall and 4-8 in the conference with the loss.

Russell had a match-high 29 kills to lead the Demon Deacons. Kylie Long recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, and Matalee Reed was the third Deacon to record doubl-digit kills with 10. Teegan Van Gunst led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 17 kills.

Wake Forest started strong with an 11-7 lead to begin the first set after multiple attack errors by the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech called timeout and then cut Wake Forest's lead to one at 13-11. The Deacs extended their lead back out to 19-15, but the visitors brought it within two again 22-20 and Wake Forest called a timeout. The Deacons closed out the set outscoring Georgia Tech 3-2 to win the set 25-22. Russell had a 12 kills on 15 total swings during the set for the Deacs.

Georgia Tech responded to the first set loss with a 8-3 run out of the gate in the second. After a Deacon timeout, the Yellow Jackets were able to mount another run, this time 8-6, forcing the Deacs to call their second timeout trailing 16-9. Georgia Tech closed out the set with a 25-16 set victory tying the match 1-1 heading into the break.

It was close affair to start the third set, but Georgia Tech would call a timeout after Wake Forest took a slight 7-6 lead. The Deacs answered with a 6-2 run to take a 13-8 lead, but took a timeout after the Yellow Jackets cut their lead to 13-10. Wake Forest took another timeout as the visitors made a 3-0 run to tie the set 13-13. The Deacs got it together and kills from Reed, Russell, and Ashlee Rusk pushed the Deacs lead to 18-14. A strong ending to the set would give the Deacs a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-20 third set victory.

After the fourth was tight to start, but the Deacs called a timeout trailing by two at 10-8. Georgia Tech then extended their lead to three at 18-15 and Wake Forest called their second timeout of the set. The visitors ended the set with a 7-4 run to take a 25-19 set victory and tying the match 2-2 to send the match to a fifth set.

After Georgia Tech got an ace to begin the final set, three kills from Russell and a kill from Long made the Yellow Jackets call timeout after the Deacs took an early 4-1 lead. The attack would continue as a 5-1 run, which included a solo block from Russell, forced Georgia Tech to call another timeout trailing 9-2. Danae Rosendall's ace out of the break set the tone the rest of the way as they Deacons went on to win the set 15-6 and the match 3-2.

NOTES:
Jazmen Russell continues her dominating play this season as she recorded double-digit kills for the 14th consecutive match with 29 today.
• Russell's .471 hitting percentage was the highest in any match she has played in this season.
Kylie Long recorded her third career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs against Georgia Tech.
• The Deacons snaps a seven-game losing streak with the win. The last time they won was also at home on Oct. 3 against NC State.
• Reed continued her effective attacking, hitting .400 for the match. She finished second on the team with 13 total kills.
• Wake Forest splits the season series with the Yellow Jackets. The Deacs have now won two of their last three matchups against Georgia Tech. They beat Georgia Tech 3-0 last season on Oct. 20, 2013.

• Wake Forest hosts Pittsburgh tomorrow to wrap up the ACC weekend. They will face the Panthers in Reynolds Gym for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.
