
Wake Forest Falls to Pittsburgh in Three

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team fell in three sets 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday evening in ACC action at Reynolds Gym.
With the loss, Wake Forest falls to 13-13 overall and 3-9 in the ACC. The Panthers improve to 21-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference with the win.
Russell had a match-high 12 kills to lead the Demon Deacons. Kylie Long was second on the team with eight kills. Kate Yeazel led the way for Pittsburgh with 11 kills. Amanda Orchard and Mariah Bell added seven kills each.
Pittsburgh took a quick 8-3 lead to begin the match and Ken Murczek called a timeout. A 5-0 run by the Panthers forced Wake Forest to call a second timeout. The visitors would jump out to their largest lead in the set 21-9 and despite a small fight from the Deacs at the end, Pittsburgh took the first set 25-15.
Like the first set, the Panthers jumped out to another large lead 9-4 to start and the Deacons called a timeout. Wake Forest attempted to claw back into the set, but had to call a timeout when Pittsburgh created a six-point cushion 15-9. After the timeout, the Panthers cruised to another victory with a 25-12 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set started off close with the holding a 7-6 lead after an assist by Kylie Long. The Panthers tied up the set 11-11 after an attack error by the Deacs, and Wake Forest called a timeout. Pittsburgh took its first timeout of the match as the Deacons make a 4-3 run capped off by back-to-back kills by Russell. The visitors retook the lead in the set 18-16 and the Deacs called a timeout. Wake Forest was able to tie up the set again 20-20, but a 5-1 run by Pittsburgh gave the Panthers a 25-21 set win and completed their sweep of the Deacons.
NOTES:
Jazmen Russell continues her dominating play this season as she recorded double-digit kills for the 15th consecutive match with 12 against Pittsburgh.
Sophia Dodd and Danae Rosendall both finished with double-digit assists with 13 and 10 respectively.
With the loss, Wake Forest remains winless in their all-time series matchups against Pittsburgh.

Wake Forest returns home next weekend one last time this season. They will host Notre Dame on Friday Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m. and Louisville on Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
