
Wake Forest to face Albany in 2014 NCAA Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 2014 ACC Field Hockey Champion, and No. 11-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team will face the American East Champion, No. 14 Albany (N.Y.) in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Field Hockey tournament on Saturday, November 15, at 2 p.m. in College Park, Md. at the University of Maryland.
Wake Forest enters the tournament for the second consecutive season with a 14-6 overall record after clinching their fourth ACC Championship in program history. The Demon Deacons defeated No. 6 Syracuse 2-0 earlier today in the ACC title game in Durham, N.C.
The Deacs and Great Danes will face each other for the first time ever. Albany heads into the match with an 18-2 overall record and won their fourth America East title with a 5-0 victory against New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon. The team has now won 12 straight matches heading into their meeting with the Demon Deacons.
The winner will advance to the second round of the tournament on Sunday at 2 p.m. Maryland is the third seed in the tournament and will serve as the host. The Terps will face the winner of the play-in game between Princeton and Monmouth on Saturday.
Wake Forest has won three national titles in program history, claiming back-to-back-to-back crowns from 2002-04. The Deacs made the NCAA Tournament every season from 2000-2010 which included a run of nine-straight trips to the semifinals. This will be the team's 14th appearance in the NCAA Championships in program history.
The Demon Deacons are led by senior Anna Kozniuk, who earned ACC Championship Most Valuable Player honors, after scoring two goals and added two assists during the tournament. This season, she has 15 goals and six assists for 36 points this season.
In addition to Kozniuk, Christine Conroe, Georgia Holland and Jess Newak were also named to the All-Tournament team. Kozniuk, Conroe and Holland also earned All-ACC honors this season.
The University of Maryland is the host the semifinals and the championship match of the 2014 NCAA Field Hockey Championships on November 21 and 23 in College Park, Md.
