Deacs Post Strong Results in UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Demon Deacons were back in action in the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday. The originally scheduled Friday & Saturday meet was shortened to just a one-day event on Saturday due to the recent inclement weather in the Triad area. The Deacs were led by junior Nyki Caldwell who placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.70m and junior Kyle Graves who captured a fifth place finish in the one mile event with a time of 4:10.95.
60m Hurdles
Alyssa Thompson placed 15th with a time of 9.16 and Alex Krall placed 23rd with a time of 9.01.
DMR
The Wake Forest men's team comprised of Simon Holden, Kyle Eager, Daniel Harrison and Alexander Rose captured a second place finish with a time of 9:46.54.
60m Dash
Sophomore Alex Krall placed 47th with a time of 7.46.
800m Run
The Deacons captured three consecutive places with freshman Kathryn Lazarchick placing fifth (2:13.68), freshman Tessa Riley placing sixth (2:16.14) and freshman Marie Johnston placing seventh (2:16.40). Junior Natalie Sukramani wasn't far behind and secured an 11th place finish with a time of 2:17.71. Brady Wilson placed 50th with a time of 2:01.70.
3,000m Run
Freshman Ellie Abrahamson captured a third place finish with a time of 10:01.56 and Kathleen Darling trailed capturing fifth with a time of 10:09.52. Graduate student Kristin Weisse placed ninth (10:57.53) and freshman Chandler Borton placed 17th with a time of 10:27.60. Junior Connor Crowley led the men placing in ninth with a time of 8:24.86 and senior Garret Drogosch followed close behind placing 11th with a time of 8:29.48. Senior Tom Finneran placed 14th (8:38.14) and Billy Fayette placed 26th (8:52.24).
1 Mile Run
Freshman Kathryn Lazarchick placed 12th with a time of 5:00.74. Leading the men was junior Kyle Graves capturing a fifth place finish (4:10.95), followed by freshman Jacob Poyner finishing in sixth (4:11.05) and sophomore Evan Little in tenth (4:15.92).
Weight Throw
Freshman Casidy Callahan secured a sixth place finish with a mark of 16.80m. Freshman Charlie Ionata placed fourth with a mark of 17.63m, with senior Teddy Mottola placing ninth with a mark of 16.53m, and freshman Kyle Johnson placed 12th with a mark of 15.97m.
High Jump
Junior Nyki Caldwell led the Deacs securing a second place finish with a mark of 1.70m and freshman Amy Collins in a two-way tie placed sixth with a mark of 1.65m. Sophomore Michael Rufrano placed in a three-way tie for ninth with a mark of 1.96m.
Pole Vault
Sophomore Sydney White captured a fourth place finish with a mark of 3.75m and freshman Madison Bragg placed tenth with a mark of 3.30m. For the men, sophomore Michael Cyphers placed sixth with a mark of 4.75m.
Long Jump
Freshman Alyssa Thompson placed ninth with a mark of 5.42m and senior Julie McCauley placed 22nd with a mark of 4.98m. For the men, Michael Mastanduno placed 16th with a mark of 6.49m.
Triple Jump
Junior Montasia Golden placed seventh with a mark of 11.22m with teammate senior Phoebe Kershaw following right behind placing eighth with a mark of 11.13m. Sophomore William Ray placed seventh with a mark of 13.02m.
Shot Put
Freshman Casidy Callahan captured a third place finish with a mark of 14.06m and sophomore Steve Michaelsen also placed third with a mark of 16.23m.
Next weekend the Deacs will travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Alex Wilson Invitational on Feb. 21-22.
