Deacs Wrap Up Virginia Tech Challenge

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Wake Forest track and field team returned to action on Saturday in the second day of the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va. After Thomas Bojanowski set a new school record in the 600m on Friday, the Deacons saw more strong performances come out of Saturday.
Senior Kyle Graves led the Deacs capturing a first place finish in the 1,000m with a time of 2:26.87.
In the high jump junior Nyki Caldwell secured a fourth place finish with a mark of 1.73m and sophomore Michael Rufrano placed in a four-way tie for fifth place with a mark of 1.93m.
Vaulting for the Deacs were Sydney White placing fourth (3.87m), Katie Adair placing sixth (3.75m)and Michael Cyphers placing eighth with a mark of 5.03m. Cyphers sets the new school record with his mark of 5.03m.
Freshman Alyssa Thompson led the Deacs in the long jump placing fourth with a mark of 5.70m, senior Erika Martin placed tenth (5.41m), senior Michael Mastanduno placed 17th (6.14m) and sophomore Alex Krall placed 20th (5.68m).
The Deacs head to Clemson, S.C. next weekend to compete in the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-March 1.
