WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest rose another 12 spots in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Tuesday afternoon, jumping to No. 38 in the nation, its highest ranking since the 2009 season.
After splitting their opening ACC weekend with a 4-3 setback against Florida State and a rebound victory over Pittsburgh by the same score, the Demon Deacons appeared poised to continue climbing the polls.
This week's rankings are the first this season that utilize the ITA's computerized formula, resulting in big jumps for a handful of teams. Of teams that were ranked in last week's poll, Wake Forest recorded the seventh-largest jump. The Demon Deacons also make up part of a nine-team ACC contingent in the top 40 this week, second only to the SEC's 10 representatives.
It marks the first time that Wake Forest has returned to the top 40 since the 2009 season and is the highest ranking that the squad has held since being No. 37 in the poll released on April 7, 2009.
The Demon Deacons (8-1, 1-1 ACC) have gotten off to the best start in school history and will be looking to extend that momentum as they travel to No. 11 North Carolina on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. for another ACC showdown.
