MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Wake Forest baseball fell to Coastal Carolina 7-3 on Tuesday night at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark in non-conference action.
Wake Forest (11-6, 2-1 ACC) led 3-0 in the third inning but Coastal Carolina (8-8, 0-0 Big South) scored seven unanswered runs en route to the victory.
Will Craig went 2-for-3 in the game, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. The reigning ACC Player of the Week also recorded his 12th RBI of the season. Charlie Morgan and Matt Conway each had RBIs in the game.
Connor Johnstone got the start and gave up six hits in 4.0 innings pitched. Nate Jones, Parker Dunshee and Mark McCoy came on in relief. Dunshee took the loss, giving up four runs but just one of them was earned.
After two scoreless innings, Wake Forest plated three runs in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded, Morgan grounded to second to score Garrett Kelly for the first run of the game. In the next at-bat, Conway singled to left center to score a run followed by Craig who singled to right for the third run.
Coastal Carolina responded with an RBI-single in the bottom of the third inning and recorded a second run off a single in the fourth inning. The Chanticleers tied the game up at 3-3 in the fifth on an RBI-single.
Wake Forest fell behind 6-3 in the sixth inning after the Chanticleers scored three runs following two Demon Deacons errors and tacked on a seventh run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Richard Carter led Coastal Carolina with two RBIs while Seth Lamando earned the win for the Chanticleers.
The Demon Deacons are back in action on Wednesday when Wake Forest faces East Carolina in Wilson, N.C. at Fleming Stadium with first pitch at 6 p.m.
